About
The Wandering Tao

What does ‘The Wandering Tao’ mean?

In traditional martial arts, The Tao simply translates to “The Way” or “The Path.” To us, wandering isn’t about being lost. It is about staying active, exploring what your body can still achieve, and enjoying the journey of getting older.

Real, Functional Fitness (No Flips or High Kicks)

Our low-impact sessions completely skip complex combat routines. Instead, we focus 100% on what matters most for your daily life:

  • Deep Core Strength to support your back and improve your posture.
  • Fluid Joint Mobility to ease stubborn stiffness and protect your body.
  • Razor-Sharp Balance to keep you moving with absolute confidence.

No martial arts experience needed. No matter your current fitness level, your journey to moving well starts right here.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are new to this, you must have a lot of questions. For your convenience, we have gathered the most frequently asked questions about The Wandering Tao experience.

General

Absolutely. Every single class is designed with beginners in mind. There are no complicated sequences to memorise and I break down every movement into simple manageable steps. You can learn entirely at your own pace.

Yes! In fact, Tai Chi and Wuji are low-impact, gentle on the joints, and heavily recommended for improving mobility and balance. Because our movements are slow and controlled, they are highly adaptable. I will always show you how to modify a movement to respect your comfort zone. We always recommend checking with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, and we encourage everyone to listen to their body and move at their own pace.

Not at all! You don’t need to be fit to join; you join to help improve your fitness. Our classes are specifically designed to build your balance, flexibility, and core strength from whatever your starting point is today. We focus on functional fitness—using gentle bodyweight movements and options like chair-supported stretches—so you can easily move at your own pace.

No equipment is needed. Just bring yourself and a bottle of water to stay hydrated. If a specific class ever requires a mat or chair, we will provide it for you at the venue.

Comfort is key. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can move freely in—like tracksuit bottoms, leggings, and a t-shirt. For your feet, flat-soled trainers, plimsolls, or supportive pumps are perfect.

Our standard in-person classes run for approximately 60 minutes. This includes a gentle warm-up, our main movement focus, and a relaxing cool-down.
